HOW I LOST MY SISTER

My immediate elder sister was pregnant with twins when Covid hit. Towards the last few months she had severe ulcer attacks and frequent false labor pains. She was precisely eight months at the time.

She got admitted to the government hospital she goes to for antenatal. While there, the doctors explained that she needed surgery to remove the babies as soon as is possible. Everything was set for the Caesarean Section. She was operated upon and it was a success. My over joyed mother called me at the earliest hour in the morning to inform me of the good news. Everyone was taken over with excitement of the birth of twin boys. It was all chocolate and candy for a few hours, well at least from where we stood.

Apparently she kept complaining of stomach ache. Whether or not she was given medications for that was not disclosed. Just when it was too late a doctor

came to see how things were with her and discovered she needed blood after the surgery but was not given any. He got alarmed and frantically looked for blood. If a particular task should take 2 minutes in private hospital, in a government hospital it takes an hour at least.

So sorting the blood out from the blood bank, getting it to the right temperature for transfusion took way too long. On the day of Arfa I lost my sister, mostly due to negligence from the so-called trained personnel of a teaching hospital. Incompetence of a few caused us the life of a wife, daughter, sister, lecturer and mother to a 3 year old and new born twins.

Three days after her demise, one of the twins who had been sick since birth also passed on and was buried next to his mother (Allahu Yarhamuk). The other twin was named Arfa after the day he was born and the day he lost the most important person in his life. Was this also due to their negligence? Only Allah knows.

I guess this is closer for me, I didn’t really mourn my sister I had to be stronger as so many trials happened around the same time (story for another day).

I beg you in His name recite QulhuwaLLahu ahad three times for my sweet sister's soul for she was the sweetest in every sense of the word. May Allah have mercy on the souls of those we have lost, may they be admitted to the highest level of Janna.

Like, share and comment. Please share your experiences with our healthcare system I would like to know thank you.

WITH LOVE, MARIYA.

  36. InnalilLahi wa inna ilaiHi raji'un. That's how we lost a loving daughter. May Allah rectify our ways in this country. We take so many things for granted. A lot of us do not do what should be done and then blame the government or those in authority. We should remember we are answerable to Allah for our actions for whatever is entrusted to us. We are still hurt and this will last to the day we meet Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala our Maker. In shaa Allah we shall meet in Jannatul Firdous where we will never be separeted. May Allah forgive our shortcomings and accept us in His highest abode. Aameen..Aameen.

  37. Amen ya Hayyu ya Qayyum. True on blaming the government it's easier to someone else than ourselves. May we all be able to do better.
